‘Actually a great fee’, ‘€50m is a steal’ – Many fans react as Arsenal fall short of Man City asking price with opening bid for star forward

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Arsenal have submitted an opening offer of €50million to sign Gabriel Jesus.

The Gunners are keen to bolster their striker options this summer, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both into the final three months of their respective contracts with the club.

There has been increasing speculation over the past week about Jesus’ future at City — with the Brazilian reportedly wanting to leave to get a regular starting berth elsewhere.

City’s decision to sign Erling Haaland from Borssua Dortmund will further compromise Jesus’ playing time and the 25-year-old is said to be keen on a reunion with Mikel Arteta, who spent three-and-a-half years as Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad Stadium.

Various reports have confirmed that Arsenal are interested in striking a deal for the £60million-rated star.

Speaking on Wednesday, the former Palmeiras forward’s agent confirmed initial talks with Arsenal had taken place and Jesus was keen on becoming a focal part of Arteta’s rebuilding project.

According to Goal, Arsenal have put a formal offer of €50million (£43million) on the table for Jesus, but it currently falls €10m short of City’s asking price, but further talks are anticipated.

Whether Arsenal go in with a higher offer remains to be seen but it’s claimed that talks are advanced and ‘close to an end’.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
