‘Buy him’, ‘Dinho and Gundo replacement in one’ – Many fans react as Man City enter race with Man Utd to sign £60m Barcelona star

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is top of club’s summer shopping this summer.

De Jong’s future has been called into question, with a number of European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Gerrmain and Liverpool, said to be interested in his signature.

The Spanish powerhouse are understood to have paid around £77m to bring the midfielder to the Camp Nou on the back of a starring campaign, in which he helped Ajax reach the semi-final of the Champions League.

He was close to a move to the Etihad Stadium in 2019 — members of his family had viewed properties in the North West — before eventually choosing the Catalan giants.

The Netherlands international could be on the move this summer, with the La Liga giants said to be open to a £60million deal due to their recent financial troubles.

According to Daily Mail, Manchester City could reignite interest in Frenkie De Jong this summer, if Barcelona are forced to sell the midfielder due to financial constraints.

Pep Guardiola is looking to capture a midfielder who is capable of operating both in a reserved holding position and in a more advanced role.

A separate report from The Times states De Jong has been identified as a priority target to replace Fernandinho, who is set to leave City at the end of the season when his contract expires.

United are also in the running to sign De Jong, who worked with incoming manager Erik ten Hag for just under two seasons at Ajax.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
