Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is interested in a big-money summer move for Southampton skipper and England international James Ward-Prowse.
The 27-year-old has been in eye-catching form for Southampton this season, scoring nine times and assisting five goals in the Premier League. His consistent showings for the Saints have brought him on the radar of a handful of top English clubs
According to reports in Daily Star, James Ward-Prowse has many potential suitors with Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle all tracking developments closely and now both Manchester City and Manchester United are joining the race.
Ward-Prowse only signed a new long-term deal at St Mary’s last August, though, and with his current terms not due to expire until June 2026, the Saints are in a strong position to demand a high transfer fee.
A per the aforementioned report, Southampton could demand a fee in the region of £60million for Ward-Prowse, a sum both Manchester club would readily pay if they do think that the English international will be an upgrade on the other options they are currently exploring.
City boss Pep Guardiola has publicly expressed admiration for Ward-Prowse and the Premier League champions could also move for the player as they look to replace departing Brazilian Fernandinho.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
