‘The only acceptable replacement’, ‘We should try to sign him’ – Man City fans react as Pep Guardiola want to sign ‘Perfect’ PL star to replace Kyle Walker

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Reece James is admired by Pep Guardiola’s side as a ‘Perfect’ successor to Kyle Walker.

The England international was arguably Chelsea’s most important player last season despite his injury issues, scoring six goals and grabbing 10 assists in 39 games.

A key member of Thomas Tuchel’s side that beat City in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League final, James has amassed 123 appearances for Chelsea having also made 46 senior outings whilst on loan at Wigan.

Despite being under contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt), City boss Pep Guardiola looks to have earmarked James as a potential target to add to the champions’ squad.

Daily Mail Sport reported in March that Manchester City had identified James as a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker, with the 22-year-old’s contract renewal, on much improved terms, set to be put on hold.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea may need to look for a replacement for James, with Manchester City and Real Madrid reportedly holding an interest in the England international.

The report states that Chelsea are preparing to hold contract talks with James but may be preparing for his potential departure further down the line.

They also report that thd Blues are ‘monitoring’ Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi’s situation. Reigniting their interest in Hakimi could mean that the Blues are ‘readying themselves in case James leaves in the future’.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Much as I’d like this, Reece is a Cobham lad, he’s one of their most essential players, has 3 years on his deal and Chelsea have an owner now who seems committed to the team. No way does this happen.”
