‘Such great news!’, ‘Massive for us’ – Many fans react as Man City handed major boost as defender return to training ahead of Westham Clash

Pep Guardiola was handed a fitness boost on Saturday after Aymeric Laporte was involved in team training ahead of the game against Westham.

The champions could take a huge step towards claiming a fourth league title in five years when they travel to the capital on Sunday.

But City head there with real issues at the back and may only have three fit defenders for the game. Laporte and Fernandinho, who played at centre-back in mid-week, picked up injuries in Wednesday’s 5-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Laporte was involved in a nasty collision with Raul Jimenez, while Fernandinho was replaced in the latter stages with a knock.

With Ruben Dias, John Stones and Kyle Walker already ruled out for the rest of the season, it leaves the manager with a problem. Asked about the pair on Friday, Guardiola said: “They are in treatment, two days. We will see tomorrow, which players can play on Sunday. Until the day of the game we will not be able to decide.”

Pep Guardiola as well Manchester City fans have seen their wish granted after the Spanish international was pictured in training with his teammates on Saturday.

Whether he is fit to start on Sunday remains unknown but nevertheless, it’s a double boost as he will definitely be ready for the last game against Aston Villa.

The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“This might sound bad but I’d rather risk Dinho knowing he’s going to leave, if we get 60 mins out of laporte and he does his knee in again like the last time we’ll have solved the short term problem but created a long term one.”
