‘Would be great moves’, ‘actually love this’ – Many fans react as Premier League club looking at double transfer raid for Man City pair

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Southampton are targeting a double swoop for Liam Delap and Gavin Bazunu ahead of next season.

Liam Delap, 19, has endured an injury-hit campaign at the Etihad Stadium, being restricted to just three substitute appearances in all competitions.

The teenager, who had 36 direct goal involvements in 27 appearances in all competitions last season, signed a long-term contract until 2026 less than a year ago, off the back of an impressive campaign.

However, with Pep Guardiola set to add Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez to his first-team squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, that have increased the likelihood in Liam Delap going out on loan next season.

While Gavin Bazunu spent the current season on loan at Portsmouth and despite being only 20-years-old, the Manchester City goalkeeper has made 10 appearances for the Republic of Ireland.

He has become a fan favourite, while on loan at Portsmouth and kept 16 clean sheets for Danny Cowley’s side this season. After a successful loan, Manchester City are now considering whether to send him out on loan or allow him to leave on a permanent transfer.

According to the Sun, Southampton are mulling over transfer targets for when the market opens, with City whizkids Liam Delap and Gavin Bazunu on their shortlists for striker and goalkeeper.

A significant number of Championship clubs would be keen on a loan move for Liam Delap and Bazunu. It remains to be seen whether City will keep them at the club next season or send  them on loan.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Both on loan deals would be great moves. Bazunu can beat out those two GK’s to be a starter and Broja is leaving Southampton so Delap would get his mins. Would be very happy with that.”

“Loan them both for God’s sake… Southampton usually gives academy lads a chance.”

“Loan deals, and only if they’re guaranteed to play. That’s the only way I’d like this deal to happen.”

“This deal will benefit both parties because Saints have an aging keeper and strike force. Thus why the went in for broja on loan from the Academy. Playing time is assured, I just hope they stay injury-free and stay in-form always.”
