Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club officials have launched an official contract proposal to Riyad Mahrez.
The Algerian’s future has been shrouded in uncertainty as he has only a year left on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium.
Several top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and AC Milan, have been credited with interest in Mahrez as his future remains under the scanner.
However, according to French outlet Foot Mercato, Manchester City have offered Riyad Mahrez a short-term contract extension, with negotiations between the two parties having advanced recently.
Negotiations have ‘progressed’ between the parties, and Guardiola ‘absolutely doesn’t want to part ways’ with the forward.
The length of the contract isn’t revealed beyond ‘short-term’, and there is still a need to find an agreement on the wages themselves.
However, ‘there is optimism’ that something will get done, according to sources ‘close to the English club’s board’.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“I’ll be honest. I thought he’d be the one to leave first, not Sterling but I’m glad he’s staying a little while longer.
Proper baller 👌
Can’t wait to see the link up between him and Haaland 🤩”
