‘Really hope that this doesn’t happen’, ‘will just be a bad influence’ – Many fans react as Man City given green light to bid for Neymar

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are among a few European Superclubs who have been given the green light to make a bid for PSG mega star, Neymar.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward — still the world’s most expensive player following his €222 million ($264m) move from Barcelona in 2017 — has been subject of recent transfer speculation following ambiguous comments from club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi on his future.

In an interview last week with Le Parisien, Al-Khelaifi admitted sweeping changes were coming at the Parc des Princes and, when quizzed on Neymar’s PSG future, he failed to rule out an exit for the 30-year-old.

Neymar’s contribution on the pitch over the past three years has also been a disappointment. He has managed just 55 Ligue 1 appearances in three seasons, scoring 35 goals in that period.

Although he helped PSG reach the Champions League final in 2020, where Tuchel’s team lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in Lisbon, Neymar has never quite been the talisman in that competition that he was signed to become when he arrived from Barcelona five years ago.

It has become an open secret within the game that PSG are prepared to move him on, especially now that Mbappe and Messi are above him at the club when it comes to star billing.

According to Football FanCast, Manchester City, who were reported earlier this year as a potential destination for Neymar, may have just been handed the green light to make a bid for the Brazilian forward.

The report claims City are seriously considering making a move for the Brazilian, and could be preparing to put in a bid for the £67.5m rated phenomenon.

Pep Guardiola has spoken highly of the Brazilian in the past so it would come as no huge surprise of he wants Neymar at City.

The report was shared on Twitter and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
