‘Net spend trophy loading!’, ‘Let’s go’ – Many fans react as Man City could raise £207m through player sales to fund Phillips, Cucurella moves

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club could raise more than £200m from player sales this summer as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his squad for another Premier League title defence.

City have already signed Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez for a combined £65m, but Pep Guardiola wants to further strengthen his squad ahead of the coming season.

The City boss wants Phillips, who would likely cost around £60m, to replace Fernandinho in midfield, while he’s also keen on Brighton left-back Cucurella, with the Seagulls asking for £50m.

But they look set to make more money than they spend on players this year, according to The Telegraph.

They sold Ferran Torres to Barcelona in January for a fee that could rise to £55m, while interest in Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling could bring in a further £110m.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in a £50m move for Jesus, while the Blues are also keen on Sterling, who has a reported price tag of £60m, along with Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Pedro Porro has already joined Sporting Lisbon for £7m, and the report claims that Southampton are hoping to secure the signing of highly rated Ireland goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, who will likely cost £15m.

They’re also thought to have opened the door for the departures of Venezuela midfielder Yangel Harrera and England Under-20 forward Morgan Rogers, who spent last season on loan at Espanyol and Bournemouth respectively and could fetch a total of £20m.

Adding the £62m they’ve already made to further potential sales could therefore secure £207m for City.

And the report adds that figure could grow significantly if they consider what would have to be signficant offers for Oleksandr Zinchenko, Nathan Ake or Ilkay Gundogan.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from Man City supporters.
