‘No way’, ‘We can’t lose this much depth’ – Man City fans react as Nathan Ake moves to the top of Chelsea’s defensive priority list

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Nathan Ake has moved towards the top of Chelsea’s list of potential defensive signings this summer.

The Blues are on the lookout for central defenders this summer after losing both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers. Thomas Tuchel’s side have been linked with several centre-backs in recent weeks, including Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt.

The 27-year-old, who has now emerged as a real possibility for Chelsea has made just 40 appearances in two years with Man City, with Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones all ahead of him in Pep Guardiola’s pecking order. He made just 10 starts in the Premier League last season and was asked to fill in at left-back on occasion.

The Netherlands international spent six years as a Chelsea player but made just 17 appearances for the club between 2011 and 2017 due to loan spells with Reading, Watford and Bournemouth. He was sold to the Cherries for £20m in 2017 and later joined City for £41m in the summer of 2020.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues have made their move to try recruit the 27-year-old star, along with his teammate Raheem Sterling.

It is understood Thomas Tuchel’s side are in discussions with Man City about Ake, who’s now moved up the pecking order in the club’s summer transfer window targets.

The report explains the Holland international is open to the idea of returning to Stamford Bridge after leaving West London back in 2017.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“If we let Ake goes away that way, I will class Man City as not a serious club. What is the assurance of replacing those players ? Ake has used to the team. Who else can we sign to quick adapt to our system? 😢”

“I swear Ake said he’d stay so i think if we want to sell him he’ll go so hopefully we don’t want to sell him”

“Ake gotta stay. Happy to be rotated, versatile and a very good left footed CB which is hard to find currently and always does a job when required.”
