Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the Premier League champions are in negotiations with RSC Anderlecht for left-back Sergio Gómez.
The Citizens are in the market for a new left-back and had identified Marc Cucurella as top target to replace Oleksandr Zinchenko following his move to Arsenal.
The Citizens are understood to have seen two bids for the Spaniard worth £30m and £40m rejected by Brighton, who are unwilling to entertain offers below their £50m asking price.
Cucurella has since handed in a transfer request to try and force through a move to City, but negotiations between Brighton and the Premier League champions have allegedly ended, with the Citizens required to increase their offer if they wish to re-open talks with the Seagulls.
The 24-year-old is looking more likely to join Chelsea in the ongoing window and Manchester City have started identifying alternative options..
According to Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad, the Premier League champions have begun talks with the Jupiler Pro League side to sign Gomez, who last campaign was named Anderlecht’s Player of the Season after bagging an incredible seven goals and 15 assists in all competitions from the left-back position.
Het Nieuwsblad report that it ‘remains to be seen’ whether the 21 year-old will be allowed to leave, despite the two parties being in negotiations.
Anderlecht as per the report have decided to not play Gomez for the time being to avoid any potential injuries as they continue talks with the Premier League champions over his exit.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“People who are asking who he is. He is both defensive and offensive fullback versatile and played a crucial part in Vincent’s Anderlecht. Vinny even wanted him at Burnley but settled with Ian Mattsen.”

“Never heard of him until 22mins ago but after 5 mins of YouTube I can comfortably say Sergio Gomez is the best all rounded left back in world football.”

“I really like this. A punt on an unknown (but seemingly good from what we can see) youngster who is clearly going to start as a back-up works better for me than £50m on a guy who will expect to start but isn’t better than Cancelo. Similar to Alvarez and less like Gnabry. Nice..”
