‘Fair enough Raz’ – Man City fans react as Raheem Sterling reveals why he left for Chelsea

Raheem Sterling has revealed his primary reasons for joining Chelsea from Premier League champions Manchester City.

The 27-year-old left City for Chelsea in a £47million move earlier in the transfer window, after spending the last seven years of his career at the Etihad.

The England star won four Premier League titles after joining City from Liverpool in 2015 and has made more appearances for the club under Pep Guardiola than any other player.

But the England international had seen his game time marginalised over the last 12 months. He clocked up just 2,128 minutes in the top flight and 23 starts – comfortably the lowest since his first season at City.

Sterling has now revealed that it was a key reason for his wish to leave for Stamford Bridge. “The move came about because as a person you strive to achieve stuff,” he said.

“I felt my playing time at Man City was getting limited and you can’t afford to waste that time. I didn’t want to see my time rising and falling so I made the change. I tried to fight and change the situation but I couldn’t and I came here.”

These Raheem Sterling’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Some of these comments are so disrespectful, he hasn’t said one bad word about the club. Respect him, he may have not performed as highly as we had hoped for the last season or two, but he served the club well and helped us win many trophies.”

“The disrespect for Sterling is sad. He’s explained his reasons and not said a bad word yet half the fans want to slate him. He did great during his time @ city and helped the team achieve huge success in so many pivotal moments. City are just looking to raise the bar.”
