‘Great player’ but ‘way too expensive’ – Man City fans react after hearing £45m defender is on the Club left-back shortlist

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri is one of several options on the Club left-back shortlist.

The Citizens are in the market for a new first-team left-back after allowing Oleksandr Zinchenko to join up with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

The Premier League missed out on signing Marc Cucurella from Brighton and Hove Albion after rivals Chelsea swooped in and sealed a deal, and consequently, are now targeting full-back alternatives.

Pep Guardiola’s side currently only have one recognised first-team left back in the squad in Joao Cancelo, and are keen to bolster that area before the close of the transfer window.

The Premier League champions are closing in on a deal to sign Sergio Gomez, however, the 21-year-old is expected to head straight back out on loan.

According to Mike McGrath of The Daily Telegraph, the Premier League champions are keeping an eye on Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri as they look to bring in a left-back.

The left-back came to Wolves on loan from Angers in 2020, before his move became permanent last summer. He has since clocked up 52 senior outings, given he is just 21.

The £45m-rated left-back was also being eyed by Chelsea before they pipped Manchester City to the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton.

The report of the club’s interest in Ait-Nouri was shared on Twitter by @Doozy_45 and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
