Sergio Aguero slams Man City for selling Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Man City legend Sergio Aguero has hit out at the Premier League club’s decision to sell Raheem Sterling to Chelsea this summer.

The Premier League champions were open to keeping Sterling and had previously sought to tie him down to a new deal, but the player had decided he wanted a new challenge after failing to get the game time that he wanted during his final 18 months under Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola’s side finally allowed Sterling to leave after entering the final 12 months of his contract when Premier League rivals Chelsea came in with a £47.5m bid.

Sterling provided 13 goals and five assists in 30 Premier League appearances last campaign with the England international hitting 131 goals in 339 matches in his time at Man City.

Aguero – who retired last season on advice from doctors after being diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia – played with Sterling for six of those seasons, and in a discussion about strikers old and new at the Etihad he criticised the logic behind one of the most high-profile deals of the summer.

The former marksman thinks Man City could be making a mistake by selling former team-mate Sterling.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, Aguero said: “I don’t understand the sale of Sterling. There are times they (City) make strange decisions.”

Aguero knows better than anyone how to score goals in a City team, having smashed his way to the top of the club’s all-time scoring list during ten incredible years.
