‘They’re all awful’, ‘Zinchenko is better than those 3’ – Many Man City fans react as Fabrizio Romano name three Marc Cucurella alternatives

Manchester City’s hopes of luring Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella to the Etihad Stadium appear to have hit a stumbling block.

Pep Guadiola has identified the 24-year-old as his top target to replace Oleksandr Zinchenko following his move to Arsenal.

The Citizens are understood to have seen two bids for the Spaniard worth £30m and £40m rejected by Brighton, who are unwilling to entertain offers below their £50m asking price.

Cucurella has since handed in a transfer request to try and force through a move to City, but negotiations between Brighton and the Premier League champions have allegedly ended, with the Citizens required to increase their offer if they wish to re-open talks with the Seagulls.

City are now believed to be exploring potential alternatives to Cucurella, and according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Álex Grimaldo of Benfica was offered, although ‘there is still nothing on Man City’s side’.

The Italian Journalist adds that Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa and Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro have also been proposed.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Zinchenko is better than those 3. No idea why we sold him without a replacement.”

“Why the f**k would we sell Zinchenko before anything is confirmed with getting a new LB in? Genuinely one of the most utterly baffling decisions we’ve made in the market for some time.”

“Grimaldo is awful, even Benfica don’t want him. Guerreiro is decent but he would get demolished in the prem and can’t defend, Sosa is one dimensional and not City level. Cucurella, Ait Nouri or big trouble”

“Just get any left back whose technically good, fast, direct and that can defend one vs one”

“Happy with any one of those three. Move on from Cucurella, too much messing around now..”

“Txiki knows what’s best for City would take the right choice before transfer window ends bear in mind using Cancelo too much will give pressure to him and may not perform well”
