Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club will not be bounced into a change of position over Marc Cucurella despite Chelsea joining the chase for the Brighton defender.
Manchester City have effectively ruled themselves out of the race for Marc Cucurella today after the club confirmed they would not raise their bid.
City’s efforts to sign the Spain international broke down over the weekend with the clubs £10million apart in their valuation for the left-sided defender.
Chelsea are willing to pay the asking price for the player, and Manchester City are not willing to rise above £40million.
As a result Chelsea have now moved into pole position and are now expected to complete the signing of Cucurella in the coming days.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have confirmed they are not willing to raise their bid for Brighton defender Marc Cucurella. Chelsea are currently in discussions with Brighton and with the player in order to conclude the deal.
Work in progress for Marc Cucurella deal. Chelsea are on it on both club and player side, waiting to complete full agreement with Brighton. Deal well advanced. 🚨🔵 #CFC

The player’s preference was Manchester City. The prospect was viewed a dream by Cucurella, and the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola was something that really excited him.
Despite the fact he preferred City, the Brighton defender is open to a move to Chelsea.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
“Genuinely why? Pep obviously wants him and looks like he’s a perfect fit. All over £10m.”

“The board always let Pep down, we’ve been great these last few years, just think how much better we could’ve been if there wasn’t always that one position that we lack in, it’s been a LB for years, then a ST and still a LB issue..”

“10 million more and he is ours yet Txiki feels like that is too much but he will gladly spend 100M on a player that we didn’t even need at the time. We need Cucurella and not getting him would be a monumental mistake.”

“Everyone is talking about us being a joke that we’re not paying £50 million. Can we just add this guy has had one year in the prem not as experienced as others which are in the squad this guy has the same experience as Wilson Esbrand so how can you put £50 million on that.”

“People getting so pressed over it I don’t understand it won’t be the end of the world obviously it will be a class signing and will help out a lot but guys calm down.”

“£40m is fair for Cucurella considering his current status!! He may become one of the best LBs in the world but currently we shouldn’t pay a penny more!.”
