Erling Haaland branded a dressing room “Burden” by Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has slammed Man City forward Erling Haaland and claimed he was a ‘burden’ while at the club.

Haaland left Dortmund for Manchester City this summer for £51m having scored 86 goals in 89 games for the Bundesliga side.

The Norwegian striker has been in astonishing form for Pep Guardiola’s side, netting 12 times in seven games across the Premier League and Champions League so far.

Former Dortmund midfielder and now sporting director Sebastien Kehl has been speaking about how in the end Haaland needed to be sold due to the fact having Haaland around the dressing room was a burden.

Speaking in an interview with SportBild, Sebastien Kehl detailed that in the end, the sale was right for the club because of the impact the interest in Erling Haaland had on the dressing room.

“As much as we have always appreciated Erling and the success he has had with our shirt, in the end the matter had definitely become a burden, both in the dressing room and for the club,” he told Sport Bild.

“In general, for the whole environment, it was just him. The timing of the sale was right, both for us and for City. The fact that our first 10 goals this season have been scored by 10 different players proves it.”

It’s not so much a dig at Haaland, but more so an acknowledgement that Dortmund knew it was time to let the player go. He was respectful by all accounts, but in the end really wanted his dream move.

Haaland will come up against his former club on Wednesday in the Champions League as Man City host the Bundeliga side at the Etihad.

And, in his current form, Haaland doesn’t need any more ammunition for his hunger to find the net and continue his red-hot scoring streak.
