Liverpool told to ‘worry’ about top-four finish as Man City ‘will win’ Premier League title

Former Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage has told Liverpool to worry about finishing top four as he tip Manchester City to win the Premier league this season.

The last five Premier League titles have been shared between two clubs. The bulk of those (four) have been claimed by Manchester City who are seeking to become only the second team in the Premier League era to three-peat.

Manchester City have started their second successive title defence with a rather favourable August, with none of the so-called ‘Big Six’ of the Premier League’s on the schedule in the opening month.

They began the campaign with a 2-0 win over West Ham and then beat Bournemouth 4-0 to remain perfect after two matches, before dropping their first points of the season against Newcastle, in a stunning 3-3 draw.

They’ve since righted the ship on Matchday 4, with a 4-2 home win over Crystal Palace, in which Erling Haaland notched his first-ever Premier League hat trick. There was a second hat-trick in as many matches for Haaland as Man City then beat Nottingham Forest 6-0 before drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa the next week.

Meanwhile Liverpool have made their worst start to a Premier League season under Jürgen Klopp, failing to win any of their opening three matches for the first time since 2012‑13 and being leapfrogged by “crisis club” Manchester United.

They have picked up just nine points from their first six games of the campaign – their lowest tally since they claimed eight under Brendan Rodgers in 2015-16.

Writing for his column for The Mirror, former Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage said, “the worry” for Liverpool would be finishing in the Top 4.

According to him, Manchester City will win the title, and with the current level of competition, the Reds might find it tough to finish in a Champions League spot.

“They played in every game they coudl last season, and now look lethargic other than 9-0 against Bournemouth. It’s a worry. When I say worry, the worry for Liverpool is staying in the top four,” he wrote.

“Man CIty will win it. Look at Arsenal, Chelsea refreshing, Spurs right in the mix, Man United winning their last four. Then you see Liverpool.”

“I had them down for second in the league. Can we contemplate them really being outside the top four. It’s not a given. I hope they do because I love watching them in the Champions League but it will be tough.”

Given the shaky start Liverpool have had to their season, it does not come as a shock to see pundits and Journalist calling it complex for the Merseysiders to finish in the Top 4.

The Reds are currently seventh in the table, accumulating a total of nine points from a possible 18.

Their UEFA Champions League campaign got off to the worst possible start. A 4-1 away loss to Napoli was something which would have sent shockwaves throughout the club. The performance was pretty sub-par, and Savage resonated the same.
