“No doubt” – Journalist thinks Man City will look at signing PSG star to partner Erling Haaland

Manchester City signing Kylian Mbappe to partner Erling Haaland would be a ‘really exciting prospect’ for manager Pep Guardiola, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Kylian Mbappe, his future and his wages are seldom out of the headlines.

Having been rather ambitiously linked with Man City several times in recent seasons, as recently as this month when it was claimed that he wanted to leave Paris Saint-Germain just months after rejecting the advances of Real Madrid, a development that would have put a limited number of teams on red alert.

Manchester City were likely not among those teams watching with interest, due to the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Man City spent more than £120 million on new recruits in the summer transfer window but will have the opportunity to reinvest further at the turn of the year.

O’Rourke claims that the North West outfit have shown their desire to sign the world’s best players already and, as a result, they will be keeping an eye on Mbappe.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT“Manchester City have shown that they want to sign the world’s best players, so there’s no doubt that they would be looking at it to see if there’s a deal to be done there for him as well. I’m sure the idea of having Mbappe and Haaland will be a really exciting prospect for Pep Guardiola as well.”

Should City sign Mbappe?

Mbappe and Haaland being partnered together would send shockwaves throughout the football world, with the two players emerging as some of the most powerful names in the game in the past couple of years.

Mbappe snubbed a long-anticipated move to Real Madrid in the summer in favour of an eye-watering three-year extension worth £546m with the club until June 2025.

It is unknown whether Real Madrid will renew their interest in Mbappe after his snub. Though reported competition from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea means Man City are unlikely to sign him without a fight.

One alternative option for City could be a move to sign Serie A MVP Rafael Leao, the AC Milan star placed 14th in this season’s Ballon d’Or and the Mirror report that Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are all eyeing the star.

He would be a cheaper option than Mbappe, with the Scudetto winning star yet to enter football’s elite in terms of earnings, but it could be a sensible move for City given his four goals in nine games in the league already this season.
