‘OMG’, ‘They’re trying to take our whole club’ – Man City fans react as Southampton want yet another figure from the club

Southampton are reportedly eyeing Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca as a potential replacement for Ralph Hasenhuttl, with the Saints looking at candidates to appoint should the Austrian be sacked.

According to the Daily Mail, Maresca is on Southampton’s radar as the Premier League side continues to consider Hasehuttl’s position at the club, with City handing the Saints’ a 4-0 loss over the weekend that took the south coast club down to 16th in the standings.

As per the report, Maresca is highly thought of by Guardiola and City as a club as the Italian coach guided the Cityzens’ U-21 side to the Premier League 2 title in 2021 before being appointed by Parma.

However, this venture into senior management didn’t last long as the 42-year-old was shortly sacked.

With Southampton potentially in the market to appoint a new manager, though, Maresca could be an ideal candidate for the role given the age of the Saints’ side as well as the players the St. Mary’s club signed in the summer, with Gavin Bazunu, Romeo Lavia and Juan Larios all joining from the Manchester giants during the transfer window.

Samuel Edozie also made the move from City’s youth ranks to Southampton, and because of this, appointing Maresca could be a good move to get the best out of these four young players, with the Italian coach also likely to do better with a squad where the average age is quite low.

Indeed, whether or not City will allow Maresca to leave for a second time is another question. However, given the opportunity at hand to manage in the Premier League, the Campania coach could find it hard to turn down such an offer to take over at Southampton.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
