Manchester City Fans have reacted on social media after the Premier League champions were drawn to play Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup.
The tie against our Premier League rivals will be played at the Etihad over the weekend of the 6/9 January.
The draw took place on BBC2 tonight at Anfield with former England defender Mark Wright and ex-Lioness Rachel Brown-Finnis drawing the balls.
Pep Guardiola’s side have swept all before them in the Premier League and League Cup so far during his reign. However, in their quest for elusive European honours, they have ‘only’ picked up one FA Cup medal since his appointment in 2016 – but they remain favourites for that particular trophy this season.
City most recently lifted the famous trophy in 2019 and have been semi-finalists for the past three seasons.
Upon their return to domestic matters next month, City take on Premier League rivals Liverpool in the League Cup on Thursday, December 22 and encounter another three top-flight fixtures between December 28 and their FA Cup tie against Chelsea. One of them comes against the same top-four contenders.
In past seasons, fans of other clubs have suggested City have had easier runs in cup competitions. Man City fans were quick to make light of the fact that this is their second difficult draw in a row.
Following the draw, here is a flavour of what City fans have been saying on social media:

“To be honest , our objective this season should be retaining the League and push for the Champions League. I see these carabao and FA cups as distractions especially in a world cup year with so many fixtures … Play our second team in the FA and carabao cups..if we lose we lose”
