‘Highly unlikely’, ‘Pep will extend’ – Many fans react as report claim Man City already monitoring specific Guardiola replacement for 2025

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is already keeping tabs on the progress of one particular name to potentially replace Pep Guardiola in the summer of 2025.

The Etihad club announced on Wednesday morning that their 51 year-old head coach had put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension with the club.

That brings an end an element of concern and uncertainty amongst the Manchester City fanbase, with Guardiola previously into the final few months of his contract with the Premier League giants.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss’ new deal will take him through to the summer of 2025, and would ensure that he completes a staggering nine-year period with Manchester City.

However, there is already talk in some quarters of a decade of dominance being targeted by Etihad officials, and so a further extension at that point cannot be ruled out.

Nevertheless, as is usually the case given the meticulous long-term strategies in place at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City officials are already targeting potential replacements for their most successful manager.

One name could be much closer to home, and a name that they know all too well.

According to Alfredo Martínez, writing for Spanish newspaper Sport as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is aware that he is being looked at by Manchester City to replace Pep Guardiola in the summer of 2025.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Mikel Arteta or Luis Enrique are the only ones I would consider to replace Pep because the football philosophy is the same. No one else would make any sense. It’s like we’ve been building on this ’tikitaka’ for seven years playing beautiful football, and then pick up Poch? No.”
