FC Barcelona are reportedly fantasising about signing Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, with the La Liga giants aiming to make a January swoop for the Germany international.
Since arriving in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £21m, Gundogan has become a key player in the City squad at the beginning of this campaign he was voted by the players to replace Fernandinho as captain of the club.
However, his future is uncertain as his contract is up at the end of the season without a new deal on the horizon, but the 32-year-old is happy at the Etihad Stadium and is regularly playing under Pep Guardiola.
According to Xavier Munoz of Mundo Deportivo, Gundogan could be on his way out earlier than expected, however, as Barcelona are trying to bring him to the Camp Nou on a free transfer.
The report adds that the German midfielder is a dream transfer for Xavi at Camp Nou and the hope is that they can convince the Blues to cash in on their skipper this winter.
However, the report does note that a move for Gundogan will be dependent on Barca’s financial situation and it is unclear whether City would be responsive to a deal for their player.
Gundogan has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City this season, scoring two goals with two assists.
The 32-year-old, who has made 65 caps for Germany with 17 goals and seven assists, has started both World Cup group games so he’s still a useful player for club and country.
