‘Made the right decision’ – Man City fans react as Gary Nevile reveals real reason Guardiola allowed Jesus & Sterling to leave

Gary Neville has claimed he was told a year ago why Manchester City were willing to allow Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus to leave.

Jesus moved to Arsenal, while Sterling signed for Chelsea last summer. The two players had played prominent roles in their Premier League dominance under Pep Guardiola in recent seasons.

Neville thinks City were able to allow Jesus and Raheem Sterling to leave due to Alvarez’s presence. Pep Guardiola’s side agreed to sign the Argentine from River Plate in January, but the move didn’t go through until July.

“I was told a year ago when City let Jesus and Sterling go – because I was quite surprised that City let both go at the same time – that this kid [Alvarez] was the reason,” Neville told the Sky Sports World Cup Podcast.

“Someone said that to me, that is quite close to City, that he was the reason and they didn’t want to block his path.”

Alvarez, 22, looks like an exciting prospect. The Argentina international has scored seven goals for City so far – playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland – and has helped is country reach Sunday’s World Cup final, where they’ll take on France at the Lusail Stadium.

These Gary Neville’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
