Manchester City look set to miss out on Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol after reportedly submitting bids for a winter transfer.

The 20-year-old young defender’s immense World Cup form has intensified interest in his signature, with European giants among the heavyweights in the frame.

Gvardiol’s stock has undergone a meteoric rise during the World Cup in Qatar, standing out as one of the tournament’s top players. He has amazed many with his leadership at a young age, defensive awareness, passing and last-ditch tackling to help Croatia reach an unlikely back-to-back semi-final.

Whilst Gvardiol is focused on the World Cup, and helping Croatia progress to their second-consecutive final, behind the scenes, his agent is sorting out his future.

According to Sky Germany, Gvardiol is expected to stay at RB Leipzig beyond the summer of 2023. He signed a new deal with the Bundesliga side last summer following interest from Chelsea, in which he is tied to the club until 2027.

Manchester City have made a move to land Red Bull Leipzig ace Josko Gvardiol. It has been mentioned that the Mancunian club as well as Manchester United and Chelsea have all moved in for the Croatia international.

Elsewhere, Brazil are reportedly set to approach Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to sound out their interest in the manager and uncover his future plans.

According to Sport, the Brazilian Football Federation will contact Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to try and gauge his plans as a coach.

Brazil know that Guardiola has previously expressed his desire to coach their national team, having never forayed into the international game during his esteemed coaching career. And although the Catalan tactician recently committed his future to City, the bigwigs at the CBF are keen to hold talks.

That’s because while it’s unlikely they’ll be able to convince the Guardiola to quit his role at the Etihad any time soon, they still want to know his medium and long-term plans. The 51-year-old’s new deal keeps him in Manchester until the summer of 2025, 12 months before the next World Cup begins.
