Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report of the club’s interest in Sevilla and Morocco star Yassine Bounou.

The Moroccan goalkeeping sensation has been named the world’s third-best goalkeeper of 2022 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).

Bounou, who is commonly known by his nickname ‘Bono’, finished behind Belgium and Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois and Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez, with 55 points.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper’s stellar performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar contributed to his high ranking on the revered end-of-year list.

Bono’s majestic saves against high ranking teams such as Portugal, Spain and Belgium contributed to the Atlas Lions advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time in the country’s history.

Following Bono’s excellent performance at the World Cup, a number of European teams are reportedly interested in signing the goalkeeper, including giants Real Madrid and Manchester United.

And now one of the reported onlookers to have been left impressed enough to now consider a transfer for Yassine Bounou is Manchester City.

According to El Chiringuito, the Premier League champions City ‘have asked’ about the availability of Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou following his impressive performances at the FIFA World Cup with Morocco.

La Razon recently claimed that the Sevilla and Morocco stopper has a €50 million release clause inserted into his current contract.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@jadzein12: “OMG please be true. I loved him at the World Cup.”

@mcfcEman: “We’re about to have a goalkeeper that can actually save a penalty”

@cal61m: “Are we actually interested in a GK who can save shots????? No way”

@MCFC_LP: “Please no. His distribution is the worst I’ve seen from a GK”

@XI25_10: “Great keeper but no need to sign him .”

@SilkyCyrus_74: “Love how we linked to a goalkeeper right after that Ortega disaster class.”

@TeacherOfBall: “We need a new numero uno. Ortega is brilliant, people getting on his back after one positional mistake is quite disappointing.”

@lilricce: “Asking about the wrong players. We should be asking for a LB or a pacey winger.”
