‘He deserves it’, ‘hope he insists on more game time’ – Man City fans react as Julian Alvarez set be rewarded with new contract

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the Premier League champions are preparing to offer Julian Alvarez a new contract.

Álvarez joined Manchester City in a €21.4m deal from River Plate in the summer, with a deal wrapped up in January last year.

He had initially been signed as a player for the future, particularly as Erling Haaland’s arrival in the summer meant playing time would be limited this season.

He’s established himself as part of Manchester City’s squad this season, though, making 23 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight and assisting two.

Alvarez also helped Argentina to FIFA World Cup glory, scoring four goals in seven matches in Qatar. He is now reportedly set to be rewarded for his impressive performances for both club and country, with Manchester City preparing to offer the striker a new deal.

Journalist Darío Montero as relayed by Sport Witness reported earlier that Manchester City met with Julián Álvarez’s agent today to discuss a new contract for the striker.

According to the latest from Veronica Brunati, talks will take place in the coming weeks, with City having planned and discussed a new deal prior to the World Cup as a result of his start to life at the Etihad Stadium.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@A80683005: “He deserves it.”

@_anyinna: “I honestly hope he insists on more minutes better than what Pep is allowing atm.”

@KoloCornelius: “Give him game time.”

@kudozian: “He needs to be a regular starter”

@Ayskepz: “He gotta start playing more man or else he deserves to go play somewhere else. Can’t waist his talent.”

@SHMCFC21: “Tie him down so if he does leave it’ll be for 100 minimum.”

@JMC_OfficiaI: “Lock him down for next next 10 years..”

@PepDegree: “Not that I’m against getting him tied down to a longer deal because he’s fantastic but it’s absurd if I am Alavrez and City are telling me stay longer while the manager isn’t even giving me a chance on a daily basis.”
