‘He’s not going anywhere’ – Man City fans react as star ace attracting interest from across Europe after being dropped from team

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Joao Cancelo is attracting interest from numerous clubs from across Europe after struggling for game time under Pep Guardiola recently.

Joao Cancelo hasn’t had a good start to 2023. Since returning from the FIFA World Cup, the fullback has started in only one league game for Manchester City and has seemingly earned the status of a bench player in recent weeks.

His lack of role in the Manchester City first-team has sparked interest from clubs across Europe, as reported by The Telegraph.

The report mentions clubs from Spain, Germany, France and Italy are all monitoring the situation of Cancelo, whose contract at Etihad Stadium expires in 2027.

At present, Cancelo is understood to be fully-focused on the games that loom in the immediate future for Manchester City, while there is also no feeling from the player that he should be searching for a move away from the club in the coming months.

He is contracted to Man City until 2027 and has said he wants to stay at the club for many more years. However, it remains to be seen if that will still be the case come the end of the season should he continue to spend more time on the bench than in the starting XI.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@Mysterio__01: “Keep. Still a brilliant player.”

@SheikhMCI: “He’s not going anywhere. Form is temporary. Class is permanent..”

@Laporte_SZN: “He’ll be back in form, he’s worth a 100 mil plus so unless anyone’s willing to pay that he’s staying.”

@BringBackBalo: “In bad form currently but an excellent LB with world class pass selection. i still back him..”

@VibeWithCrypto: “I would be devasted to see him leave even with his poor performances lately”

@JMC_OfficiaI: “Form is temporary, class is permanent, remember that people, all though I won’t say no to a swap with Hernandez.”

@SudiptaDash49: “People shouldn’t be too much reactionary based on recent performances. He’s a top player. Bad moments will soon be over..”

@AlExJa202: “People saying replace him, like with who? Theo and Davies are the only fullbacks near his level and both are absolutely untouchable for at least another 3 years.”

@Daniel62240397: “He’s world class, just a bad form, we should trust and back him not criticize him.”

@joaofinogarcia: “It pains me but if he doesn’t pick it up this season we might have to cash in while his market value is still insanely high and buy Theo hernandez or somebody.”

@CrustyFlacko: “Anyone saying to sell him must’ve started supporting the club in last couple months, back your players ffs. He’s already proven he can be one of the best fullback in world football. He’s having a run of bad form just like Trent was and now he’s back..”

@D_Dunne2: “If he decides to leave it says a lot about his character, not performing anywhere close to the level of last season, looks even worse defensively and sloppy in possession causing him to be dropped, he should be looking to get his head down and perform to force his way back in..”
