‘Ridiculous decision’, ‘Why not loan him instead’ – Many fans react as Man City open to selling highly rated youngster

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Brighton, Southampton and Borussia Dortmund are all chasing Carlos Borges.

Borges signed his first professional contracts last year and have played starring roles for City’s kids at the top of Premier League 2.

The winger, who played 90 minutes and provided an assist at St Mary’s in City’s U18 Premier League final win over Saints, has scored 19 goals in 20 games this campaign.

Those goals, backed up by a further half-dozen of assists, have mostly come in under-21 competitions, including Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League.

However, the Portuguese youth international also scored a hat-trick versus Derby County and another against Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy.

Borges scored four in a Manchester derby back in November, versus United’s under-21s, and is contracted until 2024 with the Citizens.

Youth football experts Secret Scout report interest from a number of Premier League and European clubs in Borges.

According to TheSecretScout., Brighton, Southampton and Borussia Dortmund are all chasing Carlos Borges – who is open to a move that presents first team opportunities.

City wouldn’t let him go for peanuts, but are increasingly open to giving their youth products a quicker first-team pathway.

As per the report Man City are open to selling the 18 year-old but that is dependent on retaining the option to buy him back at an agreed figure in the future.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@princerequiem7: “Open to selling?? What’s this club doing fgs”

@McfcChriss: “Why can’t we give him the opportunities at our club? Is not like we are 30 points clear and everything is rosy”

@registarodri: “This club is daft if we sell.”

@SFC_BOSS: “Why not loan him instead of selling ?”

@Ainz_0oal_G0wn: “A loan would be good. The youth plays fluid false 9 and that is why Borges gets a lot of chances to score. If he plays with city, he cannot shine since we play a different set-up. This is why even our own first team players are struggling. Better to loan and develope like lavia.”

@ak179: When Brighton and Dortmund both want your players it’s probably a good indicator NOT to sell them”

@Jacob4rmstrong: “We shouldn’t even sell him with a buyback. We have 0 dynamic wingers and a ridiculously promising one makes a massive name for himself with more career g/a than games. What do we do? Try him in first team to get us out of this mess? No. We sell him….Ridiculous decision.”

@f8den: “i see people complaining but this seems like the best plan of action”

@Lleyto7: “Well, at least there’s a buy back clause”

@philcaso: “people complaining but what do you expect? he’s not ready right now and needs time to play and make mistakes, we can’t offer that so he has to go, buy back makes it irrelevant, if he blows up into a superstar he’ll be back”

@AliG4803: “This is good. He’s still young but needs gametime which he won’t get with us especially if we go in for Leao, Kvara or another winger. As much as I’d love to see him get a chance with us this is the best case scenario if we can get a reasonable buyback clause put on him”
