Sergio Aguero hits back at ‘disrespectful’ Man Utd star over Argentina World Cup comments

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has criticised former Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic for claiming that Argentina were disrespectful at the World Cup.

The Argentinian national team were widely criticised for what some deemed to be ‘unsportsmanlike behaviour’. Against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals, temperatures boiled over between the two sets of players and fierce words were exchanged.

In the final, Aston Villa ‘keeper Emi Martinez was booked after throwing the ball away during the penalty shootout and would later be seen during a victory parade in his home country mocking France star Kylian Mbappe.

Commenting on Argentina’s behaviour at the tournament, the Rossoneri star strongly criticised the Argentineans on Wednesday.

“Messi is considered the best player in history and will be remembered for winning the World Cup, but the others? I cannot respect, as a professional, those who behave like that,” he said.

“This is coming from me, speaking as a top professional player, that is a sign that you will win once, but you won’t win again. You don’t win like that.”

An angry Aguero didn’t take too kindly to Ibrahimovic’s remarks, and he fired back in a sensational rant on his Twitch stream, in which he was quick to point out the Swedish striker’s previous transgressions.

The ex-City striker responded: “Let’s remember that you also behaved badly, right? I remember that we played against United. I was on the bench.

“You’re the least suitable person to speak.”

“You were provoking, you were talking back. I think that before worrying about Argentina, you should worry about your country, about your players, who aren’t even in the last World Cups.

“They didn’t even qualify, but well, I don’t know. I remember that you fought with [Nicolas] Otamendi in a game between City and United. You argued with Pep Guardiola.

“I imagine that’s why he wanted to sell you from Barcelona. You disrespected my teammates.

“What’s more, maybe you’re also talking to me because I was there. I feel like you shot me and now I’m shooting you.”
