‘Feel bad for him’, ‘hasn’t even been given a chance’ – Man City fans react to Sergio Gómez summer exit Speculation

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Sergio Gomez could be moved on this summer despite not given enough time to prove himself.

The 22-year-old joined Manchester City in the summer for a fee of around £11.5m. But the Spaniard has only played 11 times for City, remaining an unused substitute for City in their last eight Premier League matches. He is struggling.

His form at Anderlecht was incredible. From left-back, he had a hand in 22 goals in 50 appearances. So, clearly, a huge talent that City have signed for a modest fee. But while it might have been easily predicted, Gomez is not playing.

Pep Guardiola’s decision to loan Joao Cancelo out to Bayern Munich leaves Manchester City with only one natural left-back in the first-team – Sergio Gomez. And while Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte are ahead of the 22-year-old in the pecking order, Gomez might be given a chance to turn things around.

Ake should keep his place at left-back after his Man-of-the-Match performance in City’s FA Cup win over Arsenal, but Gomez could return to the bench now a fullback has left, so it gives him a chance to prove himself to Pep.

The Athletic reported last month that the left-back is ‘not yet trusted’ to start matches for City. He’s been an unused substitute more times (13) in the league than he’s made appearances overall, so Gomez needs to work hard to get in favour.

According to Sam Lee of the Athletic, Sergio Gomez is regarded as somebody who could be moved on this summer, with a loan considered likely, but a permanent transfer not off the table either.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@LeePowell101: “Terrible transfer business in the first place then, clearly.”

@Nathan_Daviez: “Although he deserves to be moved on feel bad as he is a life long city fan.”

@Sashank__: “Feel bad for him. Hopefully he is able to perform on loan.”

@MVNNY22: “Kid hasn’t even been given a chance.”

@a779457: “He’s a young player who’s been moved from position to position, then been asked to step up from Anderlecht to City to play LB (which he clearly isn’t) and will likely end up being moved around on loans for the next few years. Feel sorry for him tbh..”

@Rodri_16ball: “He performed well few CL games plus vs Chelsea two times he is the best going forward and he is only 21 why Man City not willing to give him a time to prove himself.”

@Ainz_0oal_G0wn: “I still want him to be at city and develope. He can play both inverted and overlap. Can play as a second choice and fight for his chance at starting 11. People forget that, it’s these kind of players who can save us when we need them the most. Proper depth player is hard to find.”

@jxlvinjeneral: “If he work hard and impressed Pep in the training like Zinchenko did, surely he’ll get his chance. Look at Lewis, I bet nobody would’ve thought he’ll play a big part this season.”
