Manchester City have now made an official proposal to star striker Julián Álvarez over an extended contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 23-year-old has been with Man City for a little over six months, having arrived at the club last summer from River Plate, even though he had signed back in January 2022 itself.

Alvarez had signed a contract until the summer of 2027 with Pep Guardiola’s side. Over the past couple of days, rumours linking the Manchester City starlet to FC Barcelona have been doing the rounds quite a bit.

However, the latest on the situation and City’s desire to extend the youngster’s contract has seen a significant development this week.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have now made an official proposal to Julián Álvarez to extend his contract by an additional year – running until 2028 – on improved terms.

However, as per the report from Romano, there is still no green light from Alvarez and his entourage over the new contract. The striker, who played a key role in Argentina’s FIFA World Cup 2022 triumph in Qatar, will have to make a decision in the next few weeks.

Alvarez wants to feel important at Man City both in terms of salary and gametime. Man City
’s position is very clear: They are counting on Álvarez in the present and future of the Club, they love the player, and his renewal is one of their priorities.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@BernardoTouch: “Need him to sign it. Haaland isn’t going to stay forever.”

@samjadam: “He is the Aguero replacement, who will stay for next 10 years.. Haaland may leave after 2 seasons…”

@MCFCOK47: “Pep need to start him more now.”

@MCFC_Erik: “If we let him go because of gametime we need to liquidate the club.”

@citygalore: “He’ll probably see how much game time he gets in the coming weeks before making a decision..”

@Aguama255: “Knowing him all these years I HIGHLY doubt him mentioning anything related to salary. I’m sure the big issue is game time..”
