‘Our next Scott Carson’, ‘would be good mentor for Rico’ – Man City fans react as club ready to offer new contract to Kyle Walker

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is keen to extend Kyle Walker’s stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The right-back has enjoyed a hugely-successful stint at City, making 235 appearances since moving to the club in 2017.

However, with the England international turning 33 years of age in May, there was a perception that the Premier League champions may be open to a sale.

Walker, who has 16 months remaining on his existing terms, has also indicated in the past that he wants to return to Sheffield United before the end of his playing days.

Nevertheless, according to Football Insider, City have ambitions to keep Walker at the club past the end of next season.

The report suggests that Walker remains happy with life at City, despite finding increasing competition for places from Rico Lewis.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@PalmerSZNN: “our next Scott Carson

@itsa90mingame: “Good for the leadership group and helping Rico develop we can have him on Fernandinho duty as he gets older.”

@Guapjr11: “He’ll be 34 when his contract expires I’m sorry but that doesn’t sound like a smart move especially when he relies on his PnP which he’ll inevitably lose”

@JerseyCityzen: “He looked so shaky in his last appearance. Loses his composure so easily.”

@SinisTeaK: “Obviously won’t be the best rightback in the world in a couple of years but 100% keep for squad depth and the impact he has off the pitch.”

@mancity_talk: “Makes sense this. Might be past his best but other positions need strengthening more urgently and Rico and Walker as our right back options for the foreseeable future is decent”

@EnggarB: “He would be good mentor for Rico.”

@ItsHoang_Truong: “I think this is part of the deal when he helps Lewis transition into the right back role full time. Walker’s role will be limited in the next two seasons.”
