‘This will be on Pep’, ‘Would be dumb to lose him over game time’ – Man City fans react to reports on Julian Alvarez future

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Julian Alvarez could seek a summer loan move after Barcelona ‘probe’ should his role within Pep Guardiola’s scheme does not improve.

The 23-year-old striker signed for the Cityzens in January last year from River Plate, although he arrived at the club in the summer. He has since made a decent impact for Pep Guardiola’s side, bagging ten goals in 30 matches.

However, with Erling Haaland the undisputed starter at the Etihad Stadium, Alvarez, who won the FIFA World cup with Argentina last year, has had to make do with a secondary role.

According to the information of César Luis Merlo, Julián Álvarez has not yet agreed to renew his current Manchester City contract.

The report states that even though his contract runs until 2027, Manchester City are already in talks to extend his deal further. However, an agreement is yet to be reached upon.

Unsurprisingly given Álvarez’s performances since joining the Etihad club, it is reported that Barcelona are among clubs to have ‘probed’ the player.

Furthermore, should his role within Guardiola’s scheme does not improve, a loan exit could be on the cards in the summer.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@mckenelljeff: “LOAN MOVE. He’s one of our best players!!”

@StopperTry: “Embarrassing that he doesn’t start with Haaland.”

@_matthewandujo: “This all on Pep. He isn’t even getting cameos when games finished 1-1, for a WC winner, I bet he’s fed up.”

@Siphe_Sihle1: “This will be on Pep and his coaching staff. You simply don’t bench a gem.”

@Rmazza7: “4 out of the 5 matches Alvarez and Haaland started together they have BOTH scored. He needs to be starting every game alongside Haaland if he’s fit”

@Ioveforjennie: “He loves City but a wc champion should not be on the bench when he proved multiple times what he can do..”

@bettysdiary25: “Nah I’m not ready to lose him when he brings pace, good chances and is there to get city points it would be dumb to lose him over game time he needs to play more”

@SamKB_: “People will believe anything these days. Not true and Alvarez will be a key player for our future..”

@u_Thato: “He’s not going anywhere. Pack it up.”

@marvogeo: “If we lose Julian I will be pissed! But hopefully Julian is also patient to allow Pep to nurture his undeniable talent!”
