‘Use him as part of a deal for Rice’ – Man City fans react as Guardiola yet to make transfer decision on star midfielder

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has yet to make a decision on the future of Kalvin Phillips amid transfer rumours linking him with West Ham.

The England international joined Man City from Leeds United in the summer, but has largely struggled for game time with a shoulder problem and subsequent surgery hampering the first-half of the ongoing campaign.

He returned from the World Cup apparently overweight and he has failed to dislodge Rodri in the middle. We may have to wait a bit longer to see what happens with the 27-year-old.

West Ham are known to have held an interest in the player since his time with Leeds United and are understood to have made an approach for the player last January.

According to the information of Fabrizio Romano this week, Manchester City have not yet made a decision on Kalvin Phillips’ future.

The Premier League champions are expected to have undergo a major transformation of their first-team squad this summer, however it is highlighted that deciding on the future of Phillips is a ‘crucial step’ to understand what is going to happen in the coming window.

For now, however, it seems West Ham have not made any decision on potentially signing Phillips either, with Romano stating that could come later, depending on what happens with Declan Rice.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@narimen19716357: “Feel sorry for him, but rodri is world class he can’t compete with him.”

@danielcity22: “Been an absolute flop of a signing so far, sadly. Injuries, and your mad if you think the weight thing hasn’t had an impact. It obviously said something to Pep (rightly or wrongly) about his attitude. Hope he sorts it out. Seems a good guy.”

@lcheung1998: “Use him as part of a deal for Rice, Pep likes versatile players and Rice is exactly that, can play CB as well.”

@shawncarim: “A swap and money add for rice and it’s fine..”

@Robert_Aung: “How about a swap deal with Rice? Rice can play cm, to replace Gundogan..”

@Seee_Hen: “Kalvin + 20m for Rice??.”

@heel_kaybee: “I feel sorry for him, Rodri is so good he can’t even be rotated..”

@Burish5: “He needs time if yall remember every new signing in city except 2 or 3 players others dont hit the train running look at jack now even rodri when he came was average now he is the best dm.”

@wrjn25: “Feel bad for Kalvin. Quality player but injuries haven’t helped him at all, and he’s seemed to struggle to take that step up to a top team. He’s fully capable of it talent wise, I just wonder whether he’s mentally capable of it.”
