‘Don’t do it Vinny!’ – Man City fans react as Vincent Kompany linked with major Premier League job

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Vincent Kompany is subject to interest from Tottenham Hotspur as they prepare to part ways with current manager Antonio Conte.

Tottenham look set to sack Conte following last weekend’s 3-3 draw against Southampton, with Manchester City legend and current Burnley boss Vincent Kompany one of several managers linked with the North London club.

Kompany, who current City manager Pep Guardiola recently tipped to one day manage at the Etihad Stadium, is on course to lead Burnley back to the top-flight after an incredible first campaign at Turf Moor.

The Belgian replaced Sean Dyche in the summer, leaving RSC Anderlecht, where he had managed since leaving Manchester City in 2019.

Burnley are 13 points clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship and have lost just two matches in the division all season.

The Clarets also reached the quarter-finals of the Emirates FA Cup, but were thrashed by City in East Manchester last weekend.

Erling Haaland scored his sixth City hat-trick, as the Blues beat Burnley 6-0 to set up an FA Cup semi-final tie with Sheffield United on Saturday evening.

According to the Guardian, Kompany is one six names reportedly of interest to Tottenham, with Spurs set to sack current manager Antonio Conte amid continued backlash to comments made by the Italian following a draw with Southampton.

They report that Spurs hold an interest in Kompany, as well as managers Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amori.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@TomCityzen: “Would be their greatest manager ever ”

@ErlingRoIe: “Let him use Tottenham as a stepping stone like everyone does”

@MWeaver72139842: “Wouldn’t that be a backward step for Vinny ?”

@mcfctotti1: “Arteta managing Arsenal, Ten Hag managing Man United, Kompany managing Spurs. It will be a sight to see Pep’s apprentices are evolving.”

@Ritchiepreach: “I hope he doesn’t make that mistake. They will pull a 360 Lampard,Gerrard or a Nuno Espirito’s turnaround on him . Tottenham’s woes are too deep to be solved by him. He better stick with Burnley on their way up then pick it up from there”

@ov_mcfc: “It would be a good move, dunno why people upset. Just to see if he can handle top jobs..”
