‘Good!’, ‘Would’ve been stupid if we did’ – Man City fans react to club’s stance on Kalvin Phillips

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have no plans to sell Kalvin Phillips this summer despite his disappointing first season.

Since his £45million move from Leeds United last summer, the former Leeds star has endured an injury-plagued start to his career at the Etihad, after failing to start a single game in the Premier League this season.

Phillips has shown quality while playing for Leeds in the past and has also earned himself a regular spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad thanks to his performances.

He has spent a large majority of the season so far recovering from a shoulder injury and playing second fiddle to first-choice Rodri, but he has still not proven himself in the short cameos Pep Guardiola has given him.

The Premier League champions are expected to have undergo a major transformation of their first-team squad this summer. As a result, the 27-year-old has been linked with long-term admirers West Ham and a return to former club Leeds United in recent weeks.

According to Football Insider, despite Kalvin Phillips’ disappointing first season at the club, Manchester City have no plans to sell him this summer.

As per the report, it is believed that Phillips wants to remain at Man City as he is determined to break into Pep Guardiola’s side – despite his lack of impact at the Etihad Stadium thus far.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@xlucosaurrr: “Why should we? Give him time.”

@mcfc__adam: “They should”

@4xVettel: “Good news, Only his first season and plagued with injuries we need to give him time”

@1ACE97: “Good, he’ll definitely be better next season and will be important for next year campaign.”

@JoeCiteh: “Every one writing him off, how many players have we seen have bad first seasons and completely turn it around?”

@MNCTed: “Good it would’ve been embarrassing if we did”

@Jack_tevo: “First season, been injured, etc. Let’s not jump to conclusions too fast. We’ve seen players time and time again come good. Just needs the minutes next season to prove his worth.”

@Righthalfspace: “Good. If we sold every player that didn’t do well in their first season, we would have lost on lot of our current players.”

@mvx_mcfc: “Would’ve been stupid if we did. We’re not the kind of club to bail on a signing in one season. Especially considering he’s struggled with injuries plus couldn’t string together performances to compete with Rodri.”
