‘It should be done ASAP’, ‘Give him whatever he wants’ – Man City fans react as club keen to remove clause from Erling Haaland’s contract

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is prepared to sit down and discuss a new contract with Erling Haaland following his sensational start to life at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland signed for the Cityzens only last summer, arriving from Borussia Dortmund. The Norwegian international has made a devastating impact in his debut season in the Premier League.

The 22 year-old striker has registered a total of 37 appearances for the club across all competitions so far this season, scoring a staggering 42 goals in the process, accompanied by a further five assists.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich all retain an interest in signing Haaland, but they are acutely aware that the most likely route to signing him is via the release clause in his contract.

Haaland’s contract was that he could, in theory, leave for a set fee in the future, similar to the deals he had in place at Dortmund and RB Salzburg.

Last week, a report from GOAL stated that Erling Haaland’s release clause had already become void and deactivated, automatically through Pep Guardiola committing two more years to the football club in the winter.

According to a new report from Graeme Bailey this week, Manchester City are keen to remove the release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract that would allow him to leave the Etihad Stadium for a set price.

Graeme states that Manchester City are prepared to sit down and discuss a new and improved contract with Erling Haaland following his sensational season so far under Pep Guardiola.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@mcfckc_: “Yeah make sure to remove that release clause and add in few more years.”

@CityJxck: “Haaland for another 5 years”

@MarionEsther9: “It should be done ASAP, cuz he is a goat.”

@SxrgioSZN: “Give him whatever he wants.”

@pyromarlian01: “Give him whatever he wants let him stay forever we’ve landed a gem”

@RepMCFC: “Scrap everything and only pay goal bonus, could make him a billionaire in no time”

@Rizzcock: “He’s going to be the highest earner and rightly so. If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be fighting on three fronts right now (other players also contributed, but his goals alone have been a big reason).”

@Igole27: “Perfect time to make those 800k per week rumours true”
