Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club would be willing to part ways with centre-back Aymeric Laporte for a reduced fee in the summer.
The 28 year-old has had a very stop-start campaign up until this point for Manchester City, registering just 15 appearances across all competitions under Pep Guardiola, and contributing one assist in the process.
Knee surgery last summer meant the Spain international was absent for the opening matches of the 2022/23 season, while the World Cup break in the middle of the campaign, as well as a recent bout with illness, has seen Aymeric Laporte struggle for consistent game time.
Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, and John Stones have all played more minutes than the Spaniard.
It now appears as though Aymeric Laporte could actively go in search of a new club this summer, in an attempt to hold down a permanent spot as a central defender in the starting XI of a top European side.
According to Football Insider, Manchester City would be willing to hear offers from clubs for around £40 million providing they can secure a top-level replacement.
As per the report, Laporte’s departure could open up space for the Cityzens to make an attempt to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in the summer.
The Croatian defender has garnered interest from a number of clubs and also has an asking price of over £100 million according to reports.
The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
@The_FodenEra: “That’s too small a fee Txiki.”
@vho_Makhitha: “40m is honestly a joke, He should be leaving for 65m at the very least..”
@Joshua_9320: “40 million is a joke of a selling price and arguably the biggest bargain in world football for any team that gets him..”
@MCFC__BH: “£40M for the best left footed defender itw? Nah we are the worst selling club .”
@atymcfc: “40 million, I swear we’re the worst negotiators in the world.”
@daz_blue: “Ridiculously low ….that’s 12m less than Wan Bissaka.”
@mcfcadam10: “We’re the only big club in the world who bend over backwards and sell top class players on the cheap”
@Mahrez26G: “This can’t be real. We should atleast ask for 60 millions for him.”
@NickMCFC1894: This is probably fake, but if it’s not that’s insane, how’re we going to sell him for much less than we got him for when all he’s done is improve in his time at City?”
