Journalist now drops major Man City exit claim on £61m star and more transfer rumours

Manchester City star Joao Cancelo’s days at the Etihad Stadium are ‘definitely over’ after he was shipped out on loan to Bayern Munich by boss Pep Guardiola, according to journalist Steve Bates.

Cancelo left City for Bayern in the January transfer window on loan but has quickly fallen out of favour with the Bavarian giants.

After starting five games in succession upon his arrival from Manchester City, the Portuguese defender has struggled for game-time since. He played just four minutes of the Champions League win over PSG on Wednesday, though did still claim an assist.

Despite scoring his first goal for Bayern on Saturday since joining them, Cancelo is already frustrated at Bayern, with the report suggesting that Chelsea and Real Madrid could enter the race for the Portugal international’s signature if he returns to Manchester City.

Cancelo’s career at City appears to be over having fallen out with Pep Guardiola. As a result, as part of the loan deal, Bayern have the option of buying Cancelo for £61.6m in the summer transfer window.

But it seems unlikely at present that they will be willing to splash out €70 million (£62m/$76m) to land the Portugal international permanently.

Sport reports that Bayern having already decided to cut ties at the end of the campaign. The Bundesliga giants are said to have ‘already communicated’ that decision to City.

They have no desire to extend Cancelo’s stay in Germany and he will instead be shipped back to the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola also sees no future for Cancelo at City and so will put him straight back on the market.

Following disagreements, journalist Steve Bates feels Cancelo has already made his final Manchester City appearance.

“I think it’s very difficult once Guardiola lets you go out on loan. I think he’s probably made up his mind already,” Bates told GIVEMESPORT.

“Guardiola sold Sterling, Jesus and Zinchenko last summer. They were really top, top players and doing well for him, but he let them go.

“Cancelo has obviously had disagreements with him and his form has gone. It has not been what it was, so I would suspect that Cancelo’s days at City are definitely over.”

Elsewhere, Sport are claiming that the La Liga side are still very much interested in the Blues’ captain Ilkay Gundogan.

Gundogan was one of Guardiola’s first-ever signings at the Etihad Stadium when he took over from Manuel Pellegrini. The 32-year-old has since built his way up to the main leadership group before this season he was voted City captain.

However, the problem for the Blues is that Gundogan’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign and there is no sign as of yet of a new deal being agreed. The report claims that this indecision has led Barcelona to become adamant that they will complete the signing of the German midfielder.

Barca are looking for a replacement for Sergio Busquets for next season and they have earmarked Gundogan as the perfect player to fill that gap. Bernardo and Gundogan are not the only players linked to the Camp Nou though, City’s on-loan full-back Joao Cancelo is also rumoured to be on their radar.
