Man City fans react as Barcelona reportedly target Aymeric Laporte on loan

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Barcelona would only be able to move for Aymeric Laporte on loan this summer, which makes a potential deal unlikely.

Laporte, who join the club from Bilbao for a reported £57m, has been with Man City since January 2018 and has been critical to their success under Pep Guardiola during his tenure at the Etihad. However, the left-footed centre-half has lost his prominence in the team of late, with the manager preferring Nathan Ake ahead of him.

As a result, the Spain international has been linked with a possible move away from City in the past, with growing talk of a possible departure from the Etihad Stadium at the end of the current season.

The Blaugrana have been following the 28-year-old for nearly a decade and have made failed attempts to sign him in the past. But with the opportunity likely to present itself in the summer, they intend to capitalise.

Barcelona still hold an interest in the central defender however according to Sport from Spain, a transfer to the Camp Nou is ‘unlikely’ as result of the players high wages.

The report, which has been relayed by Sport Witness claims Barcelona have made it clear Aymeric Laporte could only arrive from Man City ‘on loan with an option’ to buy and would need to adjust his wages to fit in with the club’s new salary parameters.

The report adds that at the moment, a loan deal plus a wage reduction doesn’t make this a particularly attractive deal for Manchester City or Laporte at present.

The Catalan giants are also interested in other Manchester City stars, including Ilkay Gundogan, and Bernardo Silva. And it will be interesting to see if multiple City players move to Barcelona this summer.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@MCFC_Erik: “”Option to buy” 😂😂😂😂.”

@DabboGaming: “No way it should be a obligation to buy.”

@douglisss: “Who do they think they are.”

@_citiii: “This is the club you want to sign Gundo Bernado and Laporte together? 😭”

@GreenJ92: “It really shouldn’t at this stage, but the front on these lot really, really irks me. If you can’t afford the player, stop courting him & then expecting favours from said player/selling club.”

@aXtrips: “Nah man, they always do this. First they lure the players and then backed out because of no fund 😭”

@Hugo_Marques101: “Shouldn’t be dealing with Barcelona if we have to go by their rules. The player is ours we should have the upper hand in these kind of situations. If barca can’t pay up front, Laporte can go somewhere else.”

@registarodri: “We should stop doing business with them till they get their money up..”

@johnnydejesus: “In other words, they cant afford him. Next club in line please. Same with Bernardo..”

@BalogunAgbede: “Guess he’s not leaving”
