Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Sources within Chelsea have confirmed the club’s interest in Ben Chilwell.
City will be keen to boost their own defensive possibilities following the exit of Joao Cancelo, with the Portugal international likely to secure a permanent move to Bayern Munich later this year.
Sergio Gómez is the only natural player in that position left in the squad. However, Guardiola does not seem to have faith in the 22-year-old who is yet to make a Premier League start and hasn’t played in the top-flight at all since October.
Instead, centre-back Nathan Ake and promising right-back Rico Lewis have been used instead but they can be easily upgraded and Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell has been identified as a possible target this summer.
Pep Guardiola is known to have been a long-term admirer of Chilwell, having considered triggering his £42million release clause in 2020, before he made the move to Chelsea for £50m.
According to The Athletic, the outlet has been told by ‘sources within the club’ that there is a ‘genuine interest’ from Manchester City in Ben Chilwell.
Unfortunately for Etihad Stadium officials and their hopes of securing Chilwell in the coming months, They also reveal that the England international is ‘happy’ at Stamford Bridge and is ‘settled’ living near the club’s training ground.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
