Phil Foden has admitted the last three months have been “one of the lowest” points in his career after a lack of game time at Manchester City due to a foot injury.
The 22-year-old has endured a somewhat tricky time since shining for England in Qatar. There were rumours of a rift with manager Pep Guardiola but it has been revealed that Foden has been suffering with a minor injury that he has had to manage in recent weeks.
It has meant Foden has had to settle for limited minutes, with Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez enjoying more game time in his absence.
However, the England ace seemed to turn a corner when he shone in the trip to Bournemouth on Saturday, grabbing a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win for Guardiola’s side.
On Tuesday, he found the back of the net twice as City beat Bristol City 3-0 to claim their place in the FA Cup quarter-final, underlining that he was back towards his best.
Speaking to ITV after Tuesday night’s FA Cup action, the 22-year-old revealed that he has been struggling with ‘one of the worst parts’ of his meteoric rise as one of the brightest young talents in the game at City.
“I feel much better in my feet, it’s not easy when you play with discomfort in your feet,” Foden told ITV.
“I feel 100 per cent fit now and comfortable so hopefully I can come back into the team and help them as much as possible.
“It’s been one of the lowest parts of my career. Everyone goes through them and it’s how you react. The discomfort in my feet and not playing as much. I love to play football and when I don’t, I’m a bit frustrated.”
These Foden’s comments shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
