‘Just sign him now!’, ‘He has massive potential’ – Many fans react as Man City prepare £30m transfer ‘swoop’ for 20y/o Versatile left-back

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola is targeting a summer swoop for Brentford left-back Aaron Hickey.

The versatile Scotland star has impressed during his debut season in the Premier League after moving from Bologna last summer.

Hickey, who can operate on both sides and even played at centre back at times while at Tynecastle, has proved he can play at the top level for both club and country — and on either flank.

The 20-year-old is yet to directly contribute to a goal for the Bees and was sidelined with a serious ankle injury between October and January, but he quickly earned the trust of Thomas Frank and has made 20 appearances in his debut campaign.

After the departure of Joao Cancelo, Nathan Ake has been deployed in the left-back position where he has performed reasonably well, but it is not his natural position and the signing of Aaron Hickey is being considered by Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of summer transfer window.

According to the Sun, Guardiola wants to bring in some ‘modern’ full backs and has identified the former Hearts man as a target but the Bees would be looking for around £30million.

The Bees paid around £14m to prise him away from Serie A last summer. Hickey was a revelation for Bologna over two seasons after leaving Hearts for £1.5m.

The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
