Manchester City are sweating on the fitness of Nathan Ake, as defender set for a scan on his hamstring after an injury suffered against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final second leg.
The 28-year-old, who has been in fine form for City this term, starting 28 of the side’s 47 games in all competitions, was replaced in the 66th minute of the clash at the Allianz Arena after suffering an injury as Pep Guardiola’s side came out 4-1 winners on aggregate after a 1-1 draw on the night.
Speaking after the game, Nathan Ake, who has predominantly been used at left-back, confirmed he has a hamstring injury, but sounded optimistic at least.
“I hope it’s not too bad,” he said. “I’ve had it before and it feels a bit less to be honest, but you never know with these things so we will do the ultrasounds tomorrow and then hopefully it’s not too bad. It’s very frustrating. This season I’ve been mostly injury-free. We’ll see how it is but hopefully it isn’t too bad.”
According to Paul Hirst via The Times, Nathan Aké was walking in a cautious manner an hour later when he left the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
Even if it isn’t as bad as feared, the Dutchman is certainly set for a spell on the sidelines and it couldn’t come at a much worse time.
Footbal London relayed a Twitter post from Brar in the last 48 hours regarding Ake’s injury. The injury expert believes that the timeline for a return will depend on the severity and location of injury, with a minimum timeframe of one week and maximum of 10 weeks or more.
“Nathan Ake right hamstring injury. Timeline depends the severity & location of injury (near tendon typically longer).
“Typically grade 1 is 1-2 weeks, grade 2 is 3-6 weeks & grade 3 is 10+ weeks depending on surgery or not. Higher risk for high pace players/positions.
City have an enormous week ahead of them as they first take on Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday before facing Arsenal in the potentially title-deciding blockbuster on Wednesday.
Man City fans will be hoping that the injury will not keep Ake out for too long, with the defender being one of Guardiola’s most impressive players this season.
These Ake’s injury update shared on gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
@Pride_Hazard: “This is hardly any news. Except he was expected to be floating obviously he’d be walking gingerly”
@mvx_mcfc: “That’s good, right? If it was closer to the tendon, he’d not be walking right?”
@DeadlyHaaland9: “Not looking good for us”

@greayodias: “City medical team, this is the time to show why youre the best in the business”
@LualAB_22: “I don’t care. He isn’t playing at Wembley on the weekend. Our back 4 should be
Rico, Walker, Akanji, Laporte.”
