Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club will ask Bayern Munich for a swap deal for Joshua Kimmich that would allow the Bundesliga giants to keep Joao Cancelo.
Cancelo joined Bayern on loan in January but Munich are not willing to pay the £60 million it will cost them to make the full-back’s move permanent.
Guardiola will reportedly ‘not contemplate’ allowing loanee Cancelo to be reintegrated into the first-team squad at the Etihad Stadium.
The Portuguese full-back is claimed to have caused ‘unrest’ after complaining about a lack of game time following the return from the World Cup.
With the German club unwilling to spend the £60million it would take to make Cancelo move permanent, City have therefore been making plans to negotiate a different way of offloading the 28-year-old.
According to the Mirror, Manchester City will ask Bayern Munich for Joshua Kimmich this summer as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his squad. A move for the Germany star would allow Bayern to make Joao Cancelo’s loan deal permanent.
The report claims Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the 28-year-old German international and views him as a possible replacement for out-of-contract Ilkay Gundogan.
Kimmich could be the perfect replacement for Gundogan, should his German international team-mate depart. The Bayern star started his career as a full-back but has since transitioned into midfield, largely aided by Guardiola’s input.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@slxvxid: “YESSSS GET KIMMICH IN.”
@prime_sergioo: “This would be a more than perfect deal”
@Luke_MCFC: “Insane business if true. Can’t see Bayern ever agreeing to that though”
@erniesak: “This sounds like a smart move by Man City! Kimmich is a fantastic player and would be a great addition to the team. Keeping Cancelo would also be a big plus. Let’s hope the swap deal goes through!”
@AliG4803: “If they pull this off this might be one of the best signings in the club’s history. Like genuinely a double pivot of Rodri and Kimmich is getting me worked up just thinking about it.”
@kdbblaster: “Don’t think this would happen but it would be a genius masterclass from tixi.”
@Sashank: “Txiki statue outside the Etihad if he pulls this heist of the century off”
