Man United will ‘give everything’ to stop Man City treble – Erik ten Hag sends heartfelt message to Utd fans

Erik ten Hag has told a raucous Old Trafford that Manchester United have a “really good chance” to win the FA Cup next weekend and stop Manchester City’s chance of the treble.

The Red Devils manager addressed the crowd following another Old Trafford victory, as goals from Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes ensured United ended the league season with a victory, one which meant United achieved a third-place finish.

After the game, there were a number of on-field celebrations to mark the final home match of the campaign. David de Gea was handed the Golden Glove award and the players completed a lap of honour along with their families. But the biggest roar came after Ten Hag’s message on the pitch.

“First of all I want to say thank you to our players,” the Dutchman said. “I think they played a brilliant season. They are also supported by the staff. I want to say thank you to the staff.

“Secondary, I want to thank you [the fans] all. We fought really strong during the season at old Trafford and away. I want to thank you for the season and your contribution backing us, for the support – it was great, so thank you.

“But there is still one game to go,” he added. “I am sure these players will give everything to beat Manchester City next week. If you have our back, I’m sure there’s a really good chance to take the cup back to Old Trafford.”

Speaking later in his post-match press conference, Ten Hag was asked about those on-field comments: “You have always a chance in football, history shows we beat them in January,” the ex-Ajax boss said.

“Manchester United in the last couple of years beat City many times, so these players know when they play at their levels they can compete and it’s obvious, we play against the best team, but there is a chance and we have to go for the chance and give everything. We can’t find excuses to ourselves after the game. I’m sure we will play a good game on Saturday.”
